Watermark treatment in Windows versus Kindle and iPad

I have a Users Manual for a Canon A85 camera (older model) that i have viewed on several PCs (both WinXP and Win7) for years.  When I copied (and later fresh downloaded) this PDF to a Kindle Fire HD (and later an iPad), a "watermark" (I'm guessing that's what it is) appears across every page of the display on the Kindle and the iPad.  This makes the Users Manual hard to read on the Kindle which my wife will take with her on a long trip soon.  She's a new user of the A85 and needs the manual often.  When I display the thumbnails on a Windows PC, the "watermarks" appear on the thumbnails, but (fortunately) not on the main display frame.  I'm trying to figure out how to hide or remove this apparent watermark from the display on the Kindle (and/or iPad).  The file is password protected (by Canon) to prevent editing.
