We create a library of PDFs that are linked together. The content and files are created on a network location (for example, \\mis-serv01\UserData\Shared\Files), and Adobe Framemaker is used to create the PDFs.
Creating the content seems to be fine, and PDFs are generated with no issue - however, when the PDFs are linked together, although they work fine when on the network, there are times where some of the links don't work when the files are moved. When I look at the properties of the links after the files have been moved to a different location or media (for example, on a CD), I notice that the path for some of the links are updated to the new location or media, but other links remain as the network location. This gives the impression that the links are broken, and the linking was done incorrectly, but I know the linking was done correctly, as the unchanged link shows the network location where the files originally existed.
Is this a known issue with Acrobat X Pro or with Adobe products in general? I've tested by creating and linking the documents on a Windows enviroment, and then opening and testing the files and linking on a Mac enviroment that is not connected to the Windows enviroment. What I see is some links updating (showing the new location on the Mac), but others not (showing the network location, or portions of the network location).
Other than doing the linking locally on the local workstation, are there any suggestions? The files that we work on are shared amongst 5 writers, and the network location works best because of ease in retrieval and storage.
