Problems with Crop Tool – Can't crop via Set Page Boxes anymore

Adobe Acrobat XI CC

Mac OS 10.8.4

I've looked throughout the net and here and can't seem to find any updated information on using the crop tool. The closest information I can find is in regards to CS6 which keeps referencing going to the TOOLS dropdown... which doesn't exist in Acrobat XI CC.

I've figured out that by selecting the Crop Tool and double-clicking my pdf, the Set Page Boxes menu opens. For some reason Remove White Margins is grayed out.

If I select any of the Apply To's: ArtBox, TrimBox, etc – I see a green selection appearing on the small preview and the correct size that I want underneath. But when I click OK, nothing happens.

I've tried just about every combination and the only thing that gave me a message was when I clicked Change Page Size/Custom and put in the size I wanted. It gave me the message: Page Size May Not be Reduced.

The  only thing that seems to work is manually selecting the image with the crop too and hitting Enter... then it crops – but it's  extremely imprecise.

What am I missing or doing wrong?
