Should I buy Adobe Acrobat?

I am trying to convert the file below to PDF using Microsoft's PDF plugin and also PDFCreator.  Both are producing files with distorted images.

I have tried the MS Word directions of the blog post below, but it's not helping.  Will it really help to buy Adobe Acrobat and try the blog's Acrobat settings modifications?

Please keep in mind that we do not have the time to modify the pictures outside of word.  If we can't get the images better by changing some settings, we'll just distribute the Word documents.
