Change numerous boxes on a table so they can have ticks imput rather than text

I have converted an excel spread sheet which contains numerous cells which can only have text inserted.How can i use this new converted pdf and change all cells(approx 100) so that a tick or cross and be inserted indivdually pending my selection?.

Using Acrobat pro XI
