Cannot create pdf from scanner

Acrobat XI Pro CC on Windows 8... "CREATE >> from scanner >> auto-detect = ERROR: "selected scanner not found" ... cannot find a place to "select scanner" ... only one scanner: works fine (WIA) with Photoshop...
