I'd like to customize the metadata of PDFs I create to include vital details about the file that produced it. Specifically I'd like to include the file name, program version, OS platform, and hopefully also a summary of the PDF creation settings used.
Ideally, I'd love to find out that all of this info is already there somewhere, but so far all I can find is the program version (in the advanced metadata). Is there any way I can set up InDesign and Illustrator to do this automatically upon PDF creation? I've begun entering this info manually in the custom properties tab of the document properies, but that's a time-consuming and error-vulnerable workaround that I'd like to avoid.
In case it's helpful to know why I'm asking: I create a lot of PDFs from both InDesign and Illustrator, and often use the same native file to create multiple PDFs (e.g. a print-ready file and a notated FPO for print vendors). My native file naming convention includes info the printer usually doesn't need and may be confusing to them, so I always rename the PDF with something more concise. Frequently I'll have multiple versions of the native file as well, which complicates things if I need to check which native file produced which PDF...especially when I'm coming back to a project after much time has gone by.
Thanks in advance!
